Fees and insurance
How consultation, procedure, pathology and follow-up charges work, and what to check with your insurer.
How charges are made up
| Charge | What it covers |
|---|---|
| Consultation | Time with your clinician for assessment and advice. Varies by clinician and clinic. |
| Procedure | Any treatment or surgery agreed after consultation. Quoted separately. |
| Hospital or theatre | Charged by some hospital sites for facilities. Not included in the clinician fee. |
| Pathology | Laboratory examination of samples, where needed. |
| Medicines | Prescriptions are paid separately. |
| Follow-up | Further appointments, if clinically useful. |
A consultation fee is not the total cost of treatment where other charges apply. You will be told the applicable fee before you book and given a quote before any procedure.
Insurance
- Check your policy covers outpatient dermatology.
- Most insurers need a GP referral and an authorisation code before your appointment.
- Not every specialist is recognised by every insurer. Ask your insurer to confirm the named specialist.
- You are responsible for any excess or charges your insurer does not cover.
